Thermal Transfer & Direct Thermal Labels

With the decreasing use of dot matrix printers and fanfold computer labels, there has been a sharp increase in companies turning to thermal printing. Wether you choose to use a small compact desktop machine or a larger commercial printer, they offer a good, constant quality print and are much faster and a lot quieter than an impact printer, making Thermal printing the choice of today.

There are two types of Thermal printing...... Thermal Transfer and Direct Thermal

THERMAL TRANSFER

These labels require the use of an inked ribbon. The printer head applies pressure and creates heat spots allowing the image to be transferred onto the label. With the use of different types of ribbons, almost any type of material can be printed on. The benefits of Thermal Transfer are that the image is clear & dense and resistant to fading. Ideal for barcode usage and long term labelling

DIRECT THERMAL

With direct thermal printing there is no need for a ribbon. The printer head applies pressure and heat directly onto the labels. This causes the chemicals coated on the labels to react and turn black thus transferring the image. Using different grades of labels, most usages can be covered. The print will fade over time and the labels are easily marked buy are ideal for short term usage. Direct thermal printing is easy to use... Just drop in a roll of labels, close the lid and you’re ready to go and when using economy grade labels, can be very cost effective.

We have an extensive range of Thermal Transfer & Direct Thermal label cutters to meet most size requirements. Labels are rolled on to your choice of size cores [ usually 25mm or 76mm ] which will fit the majority of desktop and commercial printers. With an endless amount of variations, we don’t hold any in stock and both types of labels are made to order, normally within 5 to 10 working days. Labels can be supplied blank, part-printed or fully printed. With part-print labels you can overprint the labels and add your own information data i.e.  contents, dates barcodes etc.
